Everything You Need to Know About CBD Edibles and Gummies - Coastal Hemp Co

The Buzz On CBD Gummies

There are many different ways in which you can use CBD products. From tinctures, to balms, to edibles. Each method has it’s benefits and they each can be used in conjunction with the others. One method, however, there is one method that is growing in popularity: edibles. So why are people turning to Edibles for their everyday CBD needs, you ask?

They Taste Good

The first and probably most obvious reason people love getting their daily CBD dosage via edibles, is that many of them taste good! Gummies come in all shapes, sizes, and flavors making there a yummy option for just about anyone. While there are plenty of flavored tinctures out there used to mask the naturally ‘earthy’ taste of CBD, there is something about popping a sugar coated gummy which tastes just like your favorite candy that takes the experience of using CBD up a level.

They Are Easier On The Stomach

It is rare, but some people do not like taking tinctures as they can upset their stomach. This is usually only the case if taken on an empty stomach, but opting for an edible instead is a good option for anyone with a sensitive stomach.

Easier To Control Your Dose

Because gummies come with a set dosage per edible, there is little to no guesswork when trying to figure out how much to take as there may be with a tincture. Gummies are especially beneficial when for beginners just getting into CBD as they can easily start with a small dose and work their way up as they get more comfortable. We suggest following the suggested dosage to start and then up your intake as needed.

Lasts Longer

When ingesting CBD in an edible form, it must pass through your digestive system before it begins to kick in. Because of this, it will generally take you longer to feel the effects of a gummy. The trade off, however, is that it will stay in your system longer allowing you to feel the benefits for longer than you might with a tincture.

They're Discrete

Many people enjoy using CBD to help them stay focused at work or reduce anxiety in social situations. This makes some methods of CBD consumption, like tinctures, less convenient. However, no one would think twice about someone enjoying a piece of candy at their desk or out in public! While we firmly believe there should be no shame in anyone’s CBD game, we totally get this approach.

So now that you have a better idea why some people choose to take their CBD in edible form, let’s dive into some of the options for edibles that are out there.

Types of Edibles

  • Gummies

As we’ve discussed, CBD gummies are probably the most common form of edible on the market. They taste good and come in a rainbow of flavors and dosages so there is an option for everyone. Plus they are discrete making them easy to take anywhere.

  • Honey Sticks

Honey sticks are exactly what they sound like .. sticks of honey, also known as CBD honey straws! These are great options for adding a CBD boost to your coffee or tea, or as a yummy treat any time of day.

  • Soft Gels

While these are not technically edibles, we wanted to include them as an alternative to gummies. These water soluble soft gels are fast acting, flavorless, and easy to swallow. They are formulated for maximum absorption and optimum bioavailability. A bonus to opting for soft gels is that you can find ones formulated specifically for things like sleep or pain and inflammation.

Things to Consider When Shopping for CBD Products

There are many more things to consider when searching for the right CBD products. The CBD industry is booming and more and more brands are joining the market daily which, while exciting, can make it difficult to navigate finding the right choice for you. Here are some of our tips for educating yourself and finding the best fit.

Type of CBD

Did you know there is more than just one type of CBD? Different brands opt for different extraction methods. Three terms that you will notice on your CBD search are:

  • Full Spectrum
  • Broad Spectrum
  • CBD Isolate

They differ in that Broad Spectrum and CBD Isolate contain no THC, while Full Spectrum does. Broad Spectrum, however, does contain all of the other beneficial compounds found in CBD whereas CBD Isolate is pure CBD with no other compounds. You can learn more about the differences between the three extraction methods here.

Type of Infusions

Just like there are different forms of CBD extraction methods, there are different ways in which gummies, in particular, are infused with CBD. It is important to look for brands that actually infuse their edibles with CBD instead of spraying or dusting them. This will ensure that you are getting a high quality CBD product that actually contains the CBD you’re paying for. Many gummies that are dusted with CBD generally are just regular candies rolled in a sugary CBD powder that often falls off and therefore do not actually get ingested.

Ingredients

While CBD gummies are fun and yummy, they are essentially no different than candy. Because of this, it is important to be aware of the ingredients in the products that you choose. We recommend looking for edibles that contain organically grown CBD that is 3rd Party Lab Tested.

Dosage

This refers to the amount of CBD you wish to consume. Most edibles range between 5 to 30 mg per edible. As we mentioned, opting for an edible when first beginning your CBD journey is helpful because you know the exact dose of CBD you’re ingesting every time. They are also easy to break up if you only wish to take only a small piece as you’re figuring out what works best for you and your body. Always follow the dosing instructions on your CBD to start. Once you know how your body will react, you can then start playing with the amount you take.

Brand

This may be the most important step in looking for quality CBD products. Just like when you’re looking you’re looking to purchase CBD. You want to find a brand that you trust. As we mentioned, brands that use 3rd Party Labs to test their products, as well as those who use organically grown CBD is a good indication that they are a reputable brand. This can sometimes mean a higher sticker price, but the old adage “you get what you pay for” definitely applies here.

Looking for something a little, shall we say, stronger than typical CBD gummies? Delta 8 and Delta 10 edibles might be exactly what you're looking for. These hemp derived forms of THC are not only legal, but they will also provide some of the same psychoactive benefits Delta 9 THC is known for. While both Delta 8 and Delta 10 have slight differences in the effects they offer, the main benefit they have in common is both are best known for not having the side effect of anxiety and paranoia that many experience with Delta 9.

There is no right or wrong way to take CBD. Different methods work best for different people given their lifestyle and specific needs. Finding the method that works best for you is part of the fun! We suggest giving a few options a try until you find what way you favor most.
